The 1920s is the decade of silent films. These posters were essential during this time. They had to convey the same feeling as in the film's story. They are hand drawn illustrations with bold colors, especially the use of red, and an emphasize on the stars in the film with the title and the credits on the bottom of the page. Since the films were black and white, studios knew that color posters would be a bigger draw for moviegoers.
