Throughout the years' movie posters have evolved; changing their designs from decade to decade. Just like how cinema changed over time, so too have film posters. Movie posters are promotional tools that are used to generate intrigue and spread the buzz around the film. Therefore, Illustrators and painters were hired to capture the look and feel of the film, producing art that must attract a majority through limited text and great colors.

Movie posters we see today are mostly photographs of actors, collaged together in computer programs like Photoshop and Illustrator. However, before the 1980s, movie posters were works illustrated and painted by hand. Where today, studios produce their posters in a short amount of time, the illustrators back then did not have that same luxury. They would need to manage their time without mistakes. Where movie studios would quickly slap together their actors' photographs on posters; illustrators have to think methodically and produce a high-quality piece that is unforgettable.

That is my intention. I want to show how movie posters evolved over the years; from the 1920s to the present. How past illustrators can convey the tone and style of the film's story in one image by just using physical tools. How did These styles change over time? How did the colors, layouts, and ideas vary? Let’s follow the timeline and see for ourselves.
